i have a customer with a mics. that have maxed the basic cabinet out & require more stations. having confirmed with my supplier what i needed i got it. i got a 0X16 fiber station module, 1 fiber nam, and a 6 port fiber expansion card.
i turned off the system. plugged in the 6 port expansion into slot #1 & booted system up. display on 221 showed configuration error. so for fun i put it into slot 2 & same error. so i tried defaulting the system & then installing the 6 port. the system booted up but wouldn't let me into programming. kept saying: in use mega-sr.
i waited for 20 minutes. still same error. finally had to take it out & re-program whole system back the way it was.
why is this happening? i know i can have 2-6 port expansion cards in the system (per the manual).
my software version is: sp 30meF02 NAT
the software cartridge info: nntm040c08cc rel 01b 1998/08/26 na-mics 3.0 v5.02

You can only have the 2nd 6 port expansion if you have the mega software.

currently there are no 6 port expansion cards in the system. i was adding the 1st. so would that mean that i would still need the mega software in order to use the 1st one?

No. Put the first 6 port in the correct slot and do the initial refresh to get it out of box condition.

i did the **startup to default it. turned the system off. then i put it in slot #1. booted it up. from there it just sat there at the date/time & wouldn't let me get into programming. always said in use mega-sr when i tried. wouldn't even let me change the time. ended up having to just take it out (lunch was over & they needed their phones back).

Depends what you concidering slot #1. It has to be second slot from the left for first 6 port expension.

i'm talking about the 2 little skinny slots to the left of the 2 trunk cards and to the right of the power supply. they are labled #1 & #2 (with 2 being closest to the trunk cards).
i've done it before (without defaulting the system) with a 6 port copper expansion. the only thing that happened was that it forced them to go from a 2 digit number scheme to a 3 digit & i had to default the startalk because it was set for 2 digits.

First 6 port expension has to be in the closest to the trunk cards slot.

Vad is right..the fiber card has to be in the slot closest to the trunk card slots.

Yep--expansion card goes into slot #2, then fiber goes into bottom connector to keep port numbering correct. Reboot the system without the expansion--then power down, install the card in slot 2--then power up again. The system should recognize the card then.
