I was thinking out-loud today and wondered if a POAM (Plain 'Ole Answering Machine) would work if x-connected to the IATA port of a CICS? Client doesn't want to spend money on voicemail.

Yes you can, no problem, but remember only 1 call can go through to the ATA or I-ATA at a time so don't use CFNA from several phones for the same line.
