Question #1: I have a customer that currently has an MICS and a NAM that wants to upgrade. I offered that if they stayed with Nortel, there could be some savings realized because they could keep their existing phones. The catch is that I have never installed a BCM. Is this a foolish idea if I am well-versed in the programming of the ICS and computer literate? I am a firm believer that I will not charge a customer 2 hours to dink around with an unfamiliar system when the right tech could do it in 15 mins. However, if I stage the system at my office before installing it...I get a learning curve. Is the BCM that much different? I'd be setting it up for about 25 extensions and VM, unified messaging, and a couple of VOIP phones for remote users. They currently have a PRI providing DIDs. Question #2: Do the IP phones have QoS?

I assume you are looking at the BCM 50. Programming the BCM is both different and the same. The lingo including the use of target lines for DID is the same the interface (Element Manager) is different. If you've installed a Call Pilot before, they are identical in the BCM.

Getting the IP phones to register can be a little frustrating. Especially remote phones.

I'd take a course. Evenif you aren't charging your customer for learning time, it does lookprofessional. I did.
