I am trying to configure my 1140E phones for full DHCP but they are not retrieving the info from my DHCP server. Here are some details:

BCM 400 IP: 10.3.1.12 (vlan 1)
Data VLAN: 2
Voice VLAN 3

I have option 191 configured as: VLAN-A:3.
I have option 128 configured as: Nortel-i2004-A,10.3.1.12:7000,1,5; 10.3.1.12:7000,1,5.

Both options are included in the scope options for both data and voice VLAN DHCP scopes.

My test phone is connecting to a 3Com 4500 switch; the port it is connected to is untagged for Vlan 2 (Data vlan) and the same port is a part of the voice VLAN (3).

The phone receives an IP address, NetMask, and Gateway from the data VLAN and then sits on "Starting DHCP" for awhile before stating "DHCP server Unreachable"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a DHCP server on VLAN 3 as well, that is - does the DHCP server have an interface sitting on the voice network?

This doesn't help your problem any.
But having static IP for the phones, I find it so much easier to connect.

can't you make the BCM a DHCP server if its on its own VLAN?

I do not know all the answers to network questions. I know the BCM can be a DHCP server. But I guess since I do not know all the answers, I find it so simple to use Static.
