I really hope someone here can help me,, I have a KX-T824 phone system by Panasonic, with KX-T7731 phones. Yesterday my office finally got finished and I plugged in my phone and it worked great,,, for about two hours,, then it just stopped working. If I push a co button it lights up and says CO 1 (or 2 or 3) on the display,, but no dial tone, the volume is all the way up. The phone rings and the co buttons light up but when I pick up the handset there is no noise. when I pick up the handset the keypad lights up but no co line lites up, if I push a co line while the handset is up it lights up but still no dial tone,, but the sp phone button lites up, no noise though. I have read all the manuals, combed through all the pc programming,, I cant find anything. By the way,, the phone works fine when I plug it into another extension. and other phones react the same way on this extension. Any ideas ??

Andy, welcome
Does the phone work normally on speaker?
Have you swapped this with a known good working extension to see where the problem stays, with the port or with the phone?
It sounds as though this may be in headset mode.

Is this a new system? where's your installer?
They need to stand behind the install and product.

Sounds like its in headset mode, if it was you would get dial tone when you press Speaker and then a line key. Other wise ther is most likely a broken wire on the Audio pair to the jack, or a bad line cord (from phone to wall).

those phones require 4 wires, unfortunately sounds like your jack is getting ony 3 of the 4.
somehow, 2 hours after you plugged in the phone and had a working phone, something happened that damagd the wire or jack. maybe there was work being done in the offices next to yours.
eventhough it might not have been the installers fault your best bet is to ask him to come back and troubleshoot it.

Somebody put something HEAVY on that plug! Still, Andy, we appreciate your final response! So many folks get the help and never confirm the fix, let alone thank us! (Man, there's that bitter 'ol man comin' out again!) smile John C. (Not Garand)
