Need some help oh great ones....

Trying to install a VTX1000 to a client's 1232 phone system. I don't support that system but I was trying to do this without them having to call out the other phone company. Punched down on the first pair of an open extension. the phone will dial out, but when you hang up the phone will ring and it says "Incoming message" on the display. It also will not release the line so that you have to unplug it and give it a min or so before you can plug it in again.

BTW I did try to just loop out of a phone in the conference room, but there was no dial tone on that port.

Any help to tell me the stupid thing I'm missing would be appreciated.

Andy

1. first of all you need to set the extension as XDP (extra Device port

press program
enter system password
type 600
DISPLAY SAYS (XDP ASSIGN)
press speaker phone
DISPLAY SAYS ( jack No:
enter last 2 digits of the extension number you have the polycom connected to.i.e if on extension 204 then type 04 (once done your extension number on that extension will change by 100 i.e if it was 101 it will change to 201
use autoans/mute to set enable
press autodial store.

2. you need to defult the extension

lift handset or grabe a internal line with the polycom and dial 790
let us know how you get on.

you should also note that what we are doing is splitting a port into 2 x extensions
if you are using the polycom on the back of an extension with a key phone plugged in the keyphons MUST be a two wire Digital handset.this method will not work with a 4 wire handset.

if no other handset plugged in then its fine

ok, Handset is a KX-T7433. get into the programming and when I enter 600 it just beeps at me and then waits for another programming command. Basically like it is an invalid program number. What am I doing wrong?

ok it could be a couple of things
first lets see if your getting into system programming.

1. press program button.
2.enter system password.(*# + 4 x digit password ).
3. enter 000
does the display say date time set or words to that effect.?
answer:
yes = you are getting into system programming.
No= you are not getting into system programming.

if the answer is yes
then you have to look for the programming code by moving the shuttle ( round Dial )anti clockwise until you see the words : XDP Assign: it could well be that the code 600 is for euro systems only.
if the answer was no:
then you will have to be at the mannagers extension to program the system this is normaly the 1st extension ie 101 or 201.
once found carry on as above.

let us know how you get on

It almost sounds like it is not a TD1232 but maybe a TDA. In trying to determine what "Incoming Message" on the display is, it almost sounds like a TDA with INCOMING CALL :001 on the display. It sounds like pair one may be an analogue pair on a dhlc card, and depending on what is dialed, the immediate ringing back could be some sort of recall/callback for a non completed/invalid call? The fact that it won't release the line might be no disconnect supervision from the telco? The fact it won't loop off of another phone might be a digital only phone.
How's that for taking the first post literally?!

The older KXT 1232 wouldn't support a 7433.
