i am helping a friend install a used phone & vm system in an office. everything seems to be fine except that the vm picks up after one ring, and we havent figured out where the messages are being stored.

any suggestions on how to make the vm not pick up so quick during the day would be most welcome and any guesses at where the incoming messages might be going are welcome also.

thank you

greg

What type of voice mail is it? Is it a card in an expansion cabinet? An external voice mail? Do you have the manual for the voice mail?
My first guess, since it is a 16e, would be that it is a Strategy voice mail... but you need to check.

it is a stratagy vm with a strata dk16e box on the wall and toshiba phones. i dont know much about it but it worked normally the last time it was used (2 years ago) it has been reconnected exactly as it was but it seems to be in night mode because it answers right away.

i really appreciate any help.

Double check program 81. if the ports are lit up that would be the problem, set up program 82 or 83 for the VM ports.

Additionally, if in break, mode programs 84-86 corespond to to break mode ringing, and prog 87-89 are for night mode.

How do you check these programs? I thought I could figure it out, but I was wrong. Are these programs on the phone switch or on the voicemail processor? If they are on the phone switch, how do you connect to it? and with what?

Also, the ringing volume on all of the phones resets to silent everytime you hang up. Making it impossible to know when you are getting a phone call.

Help!

I do not mean to sound judgemental, but it looks like you are in way over your head. Toshiba is not the easiest system to program. I would highly suggest getting in touch with a qualified Toshiba tech. and pay them to help you set this system up, either over the phone or in person.

I agree with you about being in over my head. Fortunately for me, I am just doing this to help a friend. I am thinking now that he might have to hire someone with experience to do the programming.

I have to ask this though. Does the phone switch (dk16e) have any control over when the vm processor picks up? Because I took my office's old stratagy vm processor to the job site and switched it with the one he had and it also picks up on the first ring, but I know that it didnt do that when we were using it at my office.
