I can usually figure out a good problem, but I'm stumped on this one.
Got a CTX670 equipped as follows
BCTU2A AR4.10MN023.00
3 BWDKU
Stratagy IVP8 R2
BCOCIU/BCOCIS
Mostly all 3000 series phones, a couple of 2000's

Problem is that on the 2nd BWDKU I have a couple of phones that are randomly beeping, have an erratic display, and noise on an any given line.

I have: swapped phones and it stays with the extension, swapped cards, and it stays with the extension, and brought all 16 phones to the system and connected directly to 66 block, and am still getting a couple of phones that are displaying this behavior. If I then remove all other phones from system, the "bad" phones will then work. Reseated all cards, checked system ground, moved AC off of UPS and onto straight power.

System has been in for about 6 months, and worked fine until now.

I have checked TSD FYI for any bulletins, but am not seeing anything.

Seems to me PS problem. With bigger load some phones react differentelly. Make sure all phones are having same releases. I would replace PS first.

What if you plug all 16 phones on that BWDKU with all of the other phones disconnected, then plug in each disconnected phone one by one until your problem returns. This may help narrow it down to a particular port.

Vad: great idea, I can check this easily.

Phonemeister: This is a nursing home facility, and they are really strange about taking too many phones down at once. When I brought the 16 back and connected at board, I really thought that would flush out a bad port, but it did not matter what sequence I connected them in, it seemed more like a matter of when I got over 5-6 phones connected, it would start acting strange.

Now granted these are all the same phones that were on the extensions, as I dont carry that many spares, but do you guys really think that it could be more than 1 bad set, or could versions make a difference.

Also what about the processor, or software level??

Thanks for all of your input!!! :toast:

If you are running the rooms off analog ports on the phone system then it can be very easily a power issue like Vad said.
If replacing the power supply doesn't work try replacing the cabinet. Also if you have multiple cabinets try moving an analog card to another cabinet.
Worst case scenario is reprogramming the processor so lets not look at that route until you have exhausted the easier possibilities.

Wire Rat: These are all digital phones connected to a BWDKU. Only a sigle cabinet install, and I am making arrangements to get a PS out there.

Anyone else think reprogramming would make a difference?

Agree. Sounds like a bad Power Supply not pushing enough.

Cabling is what i would look at first, but since u've eliminated it, power supply next.

Then processor card with an upgraded software. Current updated software is R4.2 MP027.

Do you have a BDKU/BDKS that you could try instead of one BWDKU? I doubt that there would be a run of bad BWDKU cards but it is an easy test.
