We'r moving to a new location and need to upgrade from our 616 to accomodate more stations. We want to keep our phonesets. A priority need will be to gain ability to have an off premise extension (Executive Phone) that provides virtual capabilites. I've looked at PBX gateways. We have inexpensive opportunities for PTP, ISDN, etc.

Any ideas or suggestions

The EX96 has an OPX card...Don't know what you mean by "(Executive Phone) that provides virtual capabilites"
What do you want this off premmis extention to do?

If you have a Vodavi 616 (either EX or FLEX) & 10 phones or so-----you have about $350-$400 in equipment. You undoubtably paid much more for it, but the system was brought out about 20 years ago--that's what the equipment is worth. When you talk about PTP, ISDN or even VoiceMail---you are talking about things this system was never designed to do. A nice little system---but not designed for the year 2003 and all the gizmos available today. Upgrading to a 96EX will give you a bit more capability, but it is still rooted in 1980 technology. An opx/single line phone may be a possibility, but I don't think any "Executive" style Vodavi phone is going to work in an off-premise situation. Good Luck.

Hey JW....well written. The problem is that the endusr takes a look at all the phones and tries to get max life out of them.

We as technicians fight the never ending battle with customers that phone systems purchased over 10 years ago just aint worth a hoot to salvage....

If a customer took the time to look at the advancements of todays digital systems and voice mail and would stop looking at their bank account, they would see that it pays to go new....

But then, its just the state of our economy...and a recovery is on the way????
