I found a system in the attic of the business here. We are moving to a new building and I need to know if this unit is worth figuring out or not. At present we use an old Merlin 412 sys. The manuals link doesn't list anything for the 612 unit as far as I can tell.

Any help??

That is an expansion cabinet for the first Vodavi digital system (the 1400/2800). It will not function as a stand-alone. The system is almost identical to the Executone IDS 42. The phones that went on that are the Starplus 14xx series of telephones. They are notorious for having bad button pads.
Given that they are both old technology (Think IBM PS/II era)for my money, the Merlin is probably the more reliable of the two.

John:
I may be wrong but I think you have a Vodavi SPD 612 (61200-00). Although it's not cutting edge technology, it will run circles around any Merlin 410 system. Do you have a Merlin 410 or a Partner 412?? (Two white modules hooked together with a small 2 slot carrier??)
The SPD 612 supports those 1400 series phones, and they do have a history of "bad keypads" but I know of at least three that I'm still servicing that are stll chugging along. If that KSU still works, it may be worth it to fire it up and see if the phones are still good. What do the phones look like? Do you have any display phones? If they can be cleaned up and still work, I'd do that in a heartbeat to replace a Merlin 410---if you have a Partner 412--then it may be a wash, although I think that the Vodavi 612 still may have the Partner 412 beat depending on revision levels of software. Just my opinion. Good luck
If you're moving to a NEW building, though, I would seriously think about a new digital system rather than moving 10-12 year old technology. Just another opinion.

The part number and assembly number that were posted are definitely the expansion cabinet. Without a base cabinet, I would not think it would be worth the hassle of trying to get it up and running.
(as a side note, I have 4 or 5 of the base cabinets kicking around that I would be happy to sell, but I really think that they would be much beter off with a new system)

Thanks, guys.

I think we will stick with the Merlins for right now. We are going to need to do some kind of upgrade for all our communications in the next year and I have very little experience in the phone sys department. With the move and all I'm going to be BUSY with just getting the machines in and running and catching up on inventory without worrying about much else for a while. I'll start researching phone systems and other upgrades as soon as I have the time. I'm the "jack-of-all" around here so it's gonna be interesting for a bit.
