I need to make a new cable to program with [I have no idea what happened to my old one!!]. The info in the manual is wrong. I have tried it and it does not work. I remember having to make one with a special pinout.

I have also tried standard DB9 straight through cables and they do not work. I get no respoonse in HyperTerminal or WinDBA.

I've been going in via the sets or via ST 499 if the modem is present.

Sooo, does anybody have the correct pinout?

Or.... Is it possible that the presence of the Modem board disables RS232 Admin access?

A standard DB9 to DB9 should work - thats all I've ever used. The modem card does not disable the RS232 ports.

Try a null modem adapter.......Thats what we use.

This is so frustrating... Sometimes the simple things will cause you the most grief.

No luck with either a straight thru or the null modem.

I get the 'connected' indication in HyperTerminal, but never get the Vodavi header text and login prompt. WinDBA does not connect either.

Yet the SMDR data streams fine, so I know the RS232 port is OK on the system.

This has got to be something simple......

HT is set for 9600-8-N-1 Auto-Detect

I've also tried Terminal settings ANSI and VT100.

You are using the top serial port on the KSU? The KSU is programmed for 9600?

I make my own cables. I believe that they are straight thru. 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, etc...

Try switching flow control to Xon/Xoff.

Will one of the cables you have work on the Flash VM? If so, it should work on the KSU.

Are you sure the com port on your laptop/terminal is good? You state that the SMDR output is received ok, but maybe the Tx lead is bad and the KSU is not seeing your 'carriage return'.

Yup, Top RS232 port, tried the bottom too. SMDR streams out of the bottom.

PC and cable work for HDD VM card in the same system.

RS232/Comm1 works for other applications.

Tried Xon/Xoff

Tried changing the baud rate on the system port.

Guess I'm gonna have to call Vodavi someday when I've got 3 or 4 hours to kill.

I'll be willing to try any other ideas if anybody has'em.

The HDD VM com port is DTE and not DCE like the STS KSU.

In other words, the connection of a PC to HDD-VM requires a null modem cable or adapter, unlike the KSU which is straight thru.
