Have a new customer with a small basic setup of lines 1-4 ringing the front desk, after 5 rings it goes to the Main Greeting/01. I am adding another 3 lines (5-7) to the system (all hardware is there) and this group of lines needs to go to a different Greeting when not answered by the front desk. Front desk answeres calls for both companies. They don't want anything fancy so I have their lines going to an unused mailbox. Is it possible to have this mailbox automatically forward all messages to another mailbox?

You can send unanswered calls for the second company directly to an independent mailbox under CO line programming, page B in the KSU programming. There, you can pick any mailbox you want for these lines to forward to.

No, you can't have one mailbox automatically forward messages to another, but we usually just use the mailbox for the conference room or break room phone for this purpose. There's only so much that such an inexpensive voice mail system can do.

It's been a while but I think you can..
  • remove 2 or 3 of the VM ports from 440 and put them in group 441
  • preset call forward company 2's trunks to 441
  • in the voicemail you can set up what day and night greeting answers on a per port basis by choosing option 4 on the laptop programming screen


Or if they don't need an automated attendant and need just a mailbox to cover do what Ed said.

Don't take any of the Flash VM ports out of Group 1 (440). The system will have eratic problems if you do this. Trust me, I learned the hard way. You would only use a different VM group if you had more than one voice-mail system.

Now, you can put the voice-mail extensions in different hunt groups (450, 451, etc...) and then program those ports for different greetings. That works fine.

But, if they only want it go to a mailbox, just do what Ed said. Also, you can add multiple mailbox buttons to each phone. So, you could just program a flex button on all of the phones that need access to those messages.

you're right That is how I did it for a customer years ago with 2 company's One had 4 ports and the other had 4 ports.

I's been a long time since I had to do it.

Ed, yes I already have it set up this way and just what I thought, cant forward.

Larry, ttech, I thought about making two voicemail groups but they are satisfied with just a mailbox taking the calls. My next question you just answered, I will put that mailbox on a flex button. That will work.

Don't forget that this VM allows dialing out of a mailbox greeting by simply dialing the extension number. Company B's mailbox greeting can say to leave a message or dial the extension number they are trying to reach. No single-digit menu, but callers can simply dial the extension number they want anytime before the beep. It works well for small joints with many hats being worn.

Have the other company's lines preset forward to a mailbox and have the greeting recorded to offer "for accounting, dial 107, for purchasing, dial 119"; all that big-time-looking stuff. Even though they are in a mailbox, they can still dial these "departments" as if the company has it's own separate menu.

Just set up a remote mailbox button for this mailbox wherever it's needed if people just leave a message in it.

I found this out Friday when I was there trying to get what they wanted done. Before I started, I was thinking, man if a mailbox allows me to dial other extensions I am all set. To my surprise it worked. Now with the ability to put that mailbox on a button, I should be done.
