I have a Nomad IP wireless phone working at my home as an extension of my XTS at the office. When at home, it works amazingly well. The problem is that when I try to use it at other locations, it doesn't work (the display just shows it is searching). From what I've been told, it should be able to be used wherever there is a WiFi signal. That is actually part of the marketing for these things.
I can't seem to find any settings in the phone's parameters to change anything regarding this capability. I set up the phone to identify the network automatically and it did so within seconds. Like I said, it works great at home on my wireless LAN. It appears that it locked onto my home LAN and doesn't want to work anywhere else.
Note: I did NOT use the static IP option when setting up the phone. I used DHCP.
Could this just be something as simple as powering the phone off and back on at the new location to obtain a new IP via local DHCP? I will say that I have not tried that.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Might be like when you go to a motel and open up you e-mail before opening you Internet browser. It will say "No can do" because you haven't opened your Internet browser which takes you to a screen where you must accept the terms and conditions of using their Internet.
Maybe?

Yeah, I thought about that after I posted Mike. Even free WiFi almost always has some form of login page if for no other reason than to put advertising in front of you. Nothing is really free.
I guess my next test will be to go to a neighbor's house and see how it works on their LAN. I know it didn't work at my office on the neighbor's wireless, but I never power-cycled the phone to obtain a new IP license via DHCP.
Since the settings on these things pretty much just deal with the phone's MAC address and the system's IP, I think you may be onto something.
I'm still just guessing for now though.
