I have a customer with a STS ver 1.4 they have a Hard drive VM 2 station card 3 line cards and an expansion KSU. The system started reseting (every 30 minutes or so) when the system would reset all calls would be droped and all phones would reset, the voicemail would not reset the Vd and operation LED's would stay on, not even wink. I monitored the AC voltage and it was rock steady, checked the voltage on the cpu battery and it was 3.7 vdc. The next day when I changed the KSU the system never reset. I brought the KSU in to my shop for testing... any sugestions?

Do you have a BBU on system ? if so try patching around the unit to eliminate the device.

No BBU on system. Was able to monitor the AC level while system reset and the voltage was steady. However I didn't tell this before but the heat sink for U57 was fairly warm. The replacement unit also warmed up about the same. With the KSU running on my bench with just one phone hooked to it U57 does not get very warm. I am not sure if this could be an issue or not.

I have had a couple of STS KSU failures. The sympton? KSU resets. Installing BBU's only delayed the replacment for me. As of yet, I haven't run across any fix other than replacement.

I took the power supply out of a KSU that had a bad port on the backplane and installed it on a KSU that kept resetting. It has been working fine for about a year now.

The power transformer is the only part of the powersupple that looks like it could be easly changed out. Which componets did you change out on the back plane? I have had the KSU sitting on my bench for two days and it hasn't reset yet. However U57 isn't very warm eather.

Follow up note: When an older STS not an STSe is loaded with cards and has a lot of traffic on it it will reset the system and is some sort of power issue. the power issue does not effect the Voicemail the system just does a reset like doing a flash 80. The KSU i removed from the customer was installed with fewer phones and has not missed a beat. I don't know if there is a fix or not, I wouldn't bother to send it to Aztec Repair unless it is not working at all.

I am not quite convinced that it is always a high traffic or a power issue condition. One of my STS KSUs with the reset condition only had 8 phones on it. I replaced the KSU and played with the bad one in my shop, I installed a new power supply from a unit that was rock solid but it still reset once or twice a week. I then ran the KSU with only 1 phone and no cards. Then later, I even removed the 2-port SLT and CID board. I tested it by setting the time & date, leaving the battery switch off and connected the KSU to an on-line Minuteman UPS. The loss of time/date when connected to a UPS and with zero traffic confirms the reset problem. It is a 3500-00 STS and is out of warranty. I have decided that it is not worth it to send it out for repair but will keep it as an emergency loaner.

I just replaced my 3rd KSU for the same problem, the last one had 8 back lit phones in it and an expansion KSU. I was able to get the unit up long enough to up load the program but I had to remove the 2-port SLT and CID boards before the unit would come up. I guess I will have to trash the unit.

Did you check the voltage on battery in the CPU?
