Hi All,

I am not a ShoreTel dealer but was subcontracted to hook up the existing paging system. Spent 4 hours out there with the ShoreTel tech on the line and was unable to get the paging to work. We have a Valcom 2001-A amp and a 9940 Station Level Adapter. I have tried almost every wiring config and we have tried using an analog station port and an analog trunk port. Anyone have any insight on getting the paging to work? Thanks!! John

the way he was telling me to hook it was to come off the ShoreTel 66 block from a trunk port to the input of the Valcom 9940 pins 16 tip and 17 ring (had to go get a 24V DC power supply for the 9940 on pins 29 and 30).From there I tried coming off pins 8 tip and 9 ring (8 ohm output) and 6 tip and 7 ring (600 ohm output) to the 2001-A input (tip and ring) and lastly from the 2001-A output (paging w/o music) to the speakers.
No luck. When I pull the cross connect from the ShoreTel 66 block and put my butt set on the input of the 9940 (pins 16 and 17) it does not work. I also tried putting my butt set on the output (pins 8 and 9 or 6 and 7) with no luck. But when I connect my butt set directly to the input of the 2001-A it works fine. Suggestions?

Okay, you know your amp (2001-A) is good....now back up. Do you have battery on the trunk coming from the ShoreTel? Is 24V enough to operate the 9940 interface with audio? Have you tried connecting the trunk from the ShoreTel direct to the 2001-A? Just giving it the once over.......

Yes. I called Valcom tech support and they claim it should work just fine without the 9940. the ShoreTel tech said it works 50/50 which did not make much sense to me. In my experience it either works or it doesn't. The right config should work every time. I have suggested that the ShoreTel tech/ShoreTel tech support get on the line with Valcom and get it figured out. As far as "do you have battery on the trunk" are you saying I should put a voltmeter on the trunk, make a page and see what voltage I am getting?

I don't know how the Shoretel and it's associated switches are programmed---but I do know that we once had an issue with a switch that had some sort of block on "broadcast" or something like that. The details escape me, but Monday, I'll ask our resident IT geek boy about it.

With these IP systems--- and hooking up paging, you have to know about the IP system and how it is set up, the swiches and how they're set up and the paging system and the appropriate cable/wire set up. It's a trip. Everything has to work together.

Ok, Are you trying to do zone paging?
if so then there are specific settings that have to occur within Shoretel to make it happen.
If not zone page, why not use the page port off the Shoregear switch?
