Since I am new in this field, I am trying to find ways I Could learn more about communications.
What is the difference between T1, T2, and T3.
I met a friend who who has a T3 line. He is looking for a small system that will do the following
1) Does he really need a T3?
2) Will handle 4 incoming lines,
3) To handle 8 phones (extensions, ststions)
4) Voice MAil system to handle 8 mail boxes.
Can someone help me figure out what will be the best system for him?
Thank you for the help.

A T1 is a 1.544 MB digital line and will accommodate 24 64k DS0's (1 DS0 = 1 line). A T2 is 4 T1's and typically is only seen as a "low speed" card in an M13 mux. 7 T2's = 28 T1's = 1 T3. A T3 is a 45 MB digital line. 1 T3 will carry 672 DS0's. Your friend is a little bit over geared. At the cost of a T3 he may consider gearing down to a few POTS lines from the local Telco.

Take look at these 2 litle systems

The Bizfon and the talkswitch
https://www.phonesandstuf.com
both are feature rich systems that give you
all of the basics plus a little more.

They are not designed for call center or cti high end installations, but for sub
$2K WITH voicemail 6 co and 8 extension and more they're definately the biggest bang for your buck.
