Help- no answer on voicemail at each station or on call in's. We have by passed by hitting nite mode. Cosession does not work (time out message). Does this sound like hdd failure?

If putting the system in nite mode lets the VM answer, then I would say the HDD is working. Are the stations call forwarded to the voicemail pilot?. Does the VM normally answer incoming calls? IF it is supposed to then the incoming lines are not DIT'd. Cosessions not connecting can be as simple as the wrong baud rate set. Are all the dip switches on the VM card (top edge) all up? (which allows for serial connection)

I have an EE 192, which I think is essentially the same core components..

My area of expertise is IT, and from what youve said it does not sound like an HDD failure, unless there is more happening.

In my system, memory block 7-2 would assign the digital voice mail access (Telephone Type Assignment). Perhaps this got reset to default somehow (TEL)? It is where I would start looking for a problem. There should be at least one port assigned to DIGITAL VM.

This nite mode bypass vm completely and we have to answer incoming. Unit was working fine until it starting freezing up and would have to restart by powering down. Now it won't answer at all - no changes made in cosession to account for error. Sounds more like hardware failure somewhere.

The fact that calls are going through indicates the system itself is operational. Freezing during a connection attempt does not indicate an NEC system failure of any kind.

So, what is freezing up exactly?

If you know your voice mail pilot number, dial that number from an ext that normally has voice mail. What happens?

If dialing VM does nothing, then place the make busy switch in the down position on the VM card, wait about 30 seconds for hard drive to settle. Remove card from system just enough to disconnect from back plane. Wait for another 30 secs, then push card back in and push make busy switch up. VM will reboot. Then check to see if it works. IF it does, connect with cossessions and exit screen to DOS and do maintenance on system selecting defrag.

While listening to voicemail message, system stops playing message and no functions work-- you had to power down system and let it reset to let new incoming calls go to voicemail. Now the voicemail won't answer incoming or mailbox checks at all. Hey thanks for your help- I'm not very technical.

Have you noticed the hard drive being a little noisy when running? If it has been, then you may have HDD failure. What lights are lit on card and what color?

Doesn't sound like vm reboots.
