We have an Electra Elite 48 with NEC voicemail. The little quick reference book says FMS/VMS on it.

I need some help desperately. We have 5 lines running. One main line, 3 rollovers, and one is a fax only.

Friday night we had a problem we didn't know about because it happened after we left work. When people call it immediately gives them a message "Amy Rock is not available." and it rings our main phone and everyone hears the ring.

We have never had anyone named Amy Rock working for our company and have no idea who it is. We purchased the equipment brand new years ago.

Okay, so maybe it's a problem at the phone company with a crossed line who knows. Here's what I need help with.

We moved our office this year and the voicemail still has our old information listed on the greeting! We need to get this change. People who work on the voicemail systems charge WAY too much money. Last time we got ripped off I think. We just asked for help on how to setup speed dial numbers and got charged like $500 or $700 I forget exactly. I forgot to write down the instructions, but I kind of remembered how to do it.

So, I searched the web for help manuals. I figure maybe I can find how to do our speed dials as well as find information to change the greeting.

Well, I got the speed dials, but somehow I might have screwed the system up. It only rings on one phone now. Don't know if I did that or not. I might have hit FEATURE 33 or FEATURE 34 or something close to those numbers. I am not totally sure. The phone that rings is at our receptionist desk. We only have about 12 employees or so. 13 phones in the office, but only maybe 6 people are usually at desks.

When the phone rings it sounds different also. Maybe because it's not in that "stereo" sound from every phone ringing, but it sounds different to me and only that one phone rings. It rings as soon as I dial the phone number.

Normally it would goto the greeting first and depending on what people press it'll ring every phone.

Any help is most appreciated. I hope I didn't do anything wrong and hope I can figure out how to fix.

Also, are programming manuals worth it?! Will they show us how to change our greeting?! I don't see why things have to be so secretive and so expensive just to get something as small as a greeting changed. It lists our old address and old phone number.

By the way, you know the screen on the phone.. it has the time on it. It has a square block next to the time constantly now. It never used to. Only after my fooling around today.

I don't know exactly what the screen said when I pressed what I pressed, but it was like "System Key 5.02" or something weird like that.. it had words and a number.

Will turning off and on the machine in the back maybe solve things?! How long does it take to boot up?! If I turn it off and back on how long should I wait inbetween turning off and on?!

I am sorry to hear you got shafted by your vendor. You need to look for a NEC dealer in your area. You for some reason have big problems, sounds like you got into system programming and made changes you shouldn't have.

Maybe other members will disagree but I think there is a lot and I would say to much to walk you through. It would be best to find a decent NEC dealer or re-seller to come out fix your problem and teach you to make future changes to your voice mail system, such as changing greetings, adding or deleting mailboxes.

Good luck

welcome to the board. Please complete your profile so we know whom we are assisting and where you are located.

Programming manuals are definitely worth it IF you understand them and are trained. Yes, the VM manuals will tell you how to change your greeting. They are not secretive --- as you have learned someone without the training and correct information can literally "kill" a system. Is it worth it to have your lights, plumbing, heating or cooling work properly? Is it worth it when the computer guy gets your network back up? Is it worth it to have your telephone system work properly?

Do you think a telephone technician is less skilled or less knowledgeable than any of the above?

Only you can answer that.

Maybe someone can answer your question and give you free help BUT we only assist with information available in the user guide.

Hopefully you will find a good local vendor and establish a working relationship with them.

Dialing "Feature 80 Feature" will turn off that little block. It will also put your phone system back into Day Mode. This will make the phones that normally ring go back to ringing.

This is an example of what KLD is talking about -- a little knowledge (or a little "fooling around") is a dangerous thing. As Dans said, you need an NEC reseller or dealer. You can find one in your area online at www.necusa.com

"Amy Ronk" (not "Rock") is a system greeting. It has a very special purpose. The fact that it's answering the phone means that you've screwed something up. Call an NEC dealer.

No.. I didn't do the Amy Ronk thing.. it happens on it's own every so often, but thank you for clarifying that. That is very good news to hear that someone knows what it means and we can probably cancel the Verizon techs coming out to look at the phone lines.

Also, thanks for the Feature 80.. will try it tommorow.

Is there a way to tell if I have the Elite VMS or FMS voicemail?! The quick reference guide lists both on the cover. I would like to buy the manual and study up.

Also, I found it for $129.99 at telephonesystems.info.. is there a place I can find it cheaper?!

vms is a hard drive.
fms is a flash card.

you can also look on the card and it says either fms or vms.

also you probably hit feature 3 and that tells you the version of the phone system. this doesn't hurt anything.

Thanks for the help the FEATURE 80 FEATURE worked.

In the second message I wrote above I must have hit FEATURE 3 because that is what I was describing. I hit it and it says "KEY SYSTEM SP015 V5.03" -- heh so I was close.. I knew I got that number in the second message.

The NEC website seems a little outdated. One number wasn't correct, and one was disconnected. I called one company not too far away and NEC has a solution center or whatever not far from us at all. Both will call us back. Sucks the phones have to be down all this time. I just want to get a price quote roundabout and hopefully get someone out here.

When that person is out here I'll look in and see if it's VMS or FMS and order the manual. Does anyone know if the VMS/FMS manual might be the same?! The quick reference I have is for VMS/FMS but on telephonesystems.info website they only have a VMS manual.
