The title says it all. I have a customer who I have worked with for several years. Great people, but they don't always think ahead. The run a mountain type hot springs hotel. The owners recently decided to put in some money and on top of the hotel rooms being redone, they started building small outlying cabins for people to stay. They thought of everything, except the need to run underground phone wires to each cabin. Well, they lived with it for a while, but now, they need a solution. So I am open to ideas. At first I thought about trying to put them into an Asterisk and using a bunch of the polycom wireless phones. I have been told the range is that good, but I think the expense is prohibitive, and not sure how they would hold up in the long run. I would rather try to deliver some type of analog single so we can use a basic 2500 series telephone. So I am not sure where to start. They currently have a Merlin Magix PBX with mostly single line cards. Do they make something that would send a tip & ring single wirelessly across two adapters?.. Anyway... open to suggestions.

Tough situation. The need for telephones in hotel rooms has diminished significantly over the past five years. I suspect that you can find a wireless solution, but it will be a headache into perpetuity. I'd suggest biting the bullet and wiring.
That said - that wasn't your question. If you can do 802.11, you can use an IP PBX (Asterisk, et al) and Analog Terminal Adapter (ATA) with wireless receiver. You also then have the benefit of 802.11 wireless thru the space for guests with laptops. Good luck. Mike

why not use EnGenios and give handsets to guests who request them
I have a customer with a small motel and the heater/AC units use remotes they give them the remote with their key when they check in and tell them what will be charged to the CC if not returned they could do the same with the cordless

Depending on the amount of real estate needed to cover; Look at the WiMax offerings or IP sets based on Wifi technologies.

Thanks for all the help. I am going to start by contacting EnGenius and see what they can do for us. This sounds like it might be the most cost effective solution.

If you have any questions concerning the EnGenius give me a shout.
We have sold them for several years now,and no other cordless comes close to what they can do.

I have prices out the en-genius phones though graybar. My cost would be around 700.00 for the handset and base. Is that the cost the both of you are getting charged for?
