i am a vendor in Las Vegas who has a client with a NEC NEAX 2400 IMS in a 220 room hotel.

This system looks at least 10 years old. I work on Avaya and Nortel and need over the phone tech support for this system.

I have reconnected the remote diagnostics modem.

Their PMS and voice mail are off line.

Can someone suggest a areliable tech support company that can help me help this customer?

UseedPhones.COm suggest I post this. They said that DoctorPBX might be on this site and that he works on NEC.

Thanks!

Dave

NEC has a huge office in Vegas, why not use them directly?

didn't those 2400's have an OS/2 computer attached, AD40? Is that VM computer powered up?...the power supplies are notoriously bad. That'd certainly knock out VM and any PMS voicemail functions. happened twice at a hotel of ours with a 2400, like most old computers, they don't like power fluxes.

This customer was referred to me because we have a lot of flakey vendors in this town and they wanted me to handle it,.

Is there any over the phone paid tech to vendor support companies or other vendors on this site that can hlpe me out?

I do have the modem working to log onto the system.

I have a hard time believing there is nobody local to work on this, due to the number of hotels and casinos that use NEC. ( I went to 2400 school with several techs that were from there). Part of me wonders if they aren't paying their bills and need someone new, but I could always be wrong. The problem could be a bad I/O card as well.

I'll second scotttoolguy on the possibility that this customer is trying to dodge a bill. I've seen that a couple of times. Might be a good idea to ask for a deposit or cash-and-carry until you've established a relationship.

I'll also second that it sounds like the I/O card is bad. If so, you should see bad lights on the cards -- i.e. alarm lights or no lights.

You can reboot the Port-micro on the I/O card by flipping the silver toggle switch on that card, waiting a few seconds, and then flipping it back. This should reboot the card, and if it's a good card, restore the interfaces.

If the card is bad, well, that's another story.

@ Junkbox: I think that the AD-40 is typically a stand-alone and does not use the same power supply. The 2400 IMS usually had a separate power regulator on a 19" rack beside the unit.

Since both PMS and VM are out, it's more likely the I/O card.

Another point to consider: Those have the little blue dongle that serves as a security key. That's usually on one of those two lines -- PMS or VM -- and the box on the other end MUST be talking for the security key to work. So if the VM box were off-line and that's the I/O port that the dongle is on, then the maintenance terminal will not operate.

It may also lock out the remote modem, but I'm not certain.
