I am running Linux but don't think this is a problem related to that. I am running an external modem that has fax capabilities and I can get the fax program to dial the number and it gets an answer from the far end but it comes back and says that Error: wrong response to command to receive a frame

any ideas as to what may be going on??

thanks

Dane

My guess is that you're using eFax. Since I'm already sure about your answer, I want to hit you with a couple of related questions:

1. Are you seeing anything else reported along with that "wrong response to command", such as +FTH=3 or +FRH=3?

2. Are you using an LTmodem (formerly Lucent Technologies...now Agere)? That chipset is not supported under Linux.

3. Have you tried using HylaFAX's faxgetty? Provided that you're using a supported fax/modem, HylaFAX should do the trick.

There's a nice collection of Linmodem links here if you're not sleeping well. It's good stuff.

yes using efax and nothing else reported like your suggestions. I am using a Boca modem. Oddly enough I had this thing working under Hardy heron, but now under the Ibex it isn't. Since I am pretty new to Linux I was using efax since it seemed pretty easy to set up, had a decent GUI and can get a pop up box in Open office to quick fax.

You're welcome I always appreciate it when people come back on the Mitel and Voice Mail sites to let us know when something gets fixed. Anyway just the travails of running a Beta version
