Strange that AVG free didn't work with IE8. It has worked fine for me, make sure you have at least AVG version 8.5
Normally, in the absence of business-caliber software such as TrendMicro, Symantec etc, I would use Microsoft Defender with XP. For two reasons: it installs with Vista (and Windows 7), and it is entirely transparent.
Also, I have no proof for this, but I think that being a Microsoft utility it is probably better integrated with the Windows kernel. ALL security utilities have to go pretty deep into the OS, and stability is a concern. I have also been testing the new upcoming version of ForeFront (which includes Defender) and it works pretty good as network-wide security software.

I don't claim to be a whiz on these fancy typewriters. AVG free was an old install that wouldn't get along with IE8 when it loaded. The reat of the story is old history. But, I am happy with Panda. That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it! smile John C.

Hey guy's, finally had time to mess with this, I went ahead and uninstalled Spyhogger and installed the Spybot and Malwarebytes. Did a few shutdown, startups, with each taking only a few minutes, and good to go!

Thank's for the help! I really appreciate it. smile

Good, glad to hear you're back to level par!

Run the auto updates at least once a week and you should be safe... or buy a Mac!
