I need a new tester. My tester showed a good 10/100 connection from the switch. When I unplugged and tested with cable tester I found 1 open conductor. What is a inexpensive but reliable Ethernet tester. I've seen some that flash connection light on switch to help locate which port, that would be nice feature.

That depends on how inexpensive you are looking for. I personally like the Test-Um line of products. The Lan-Rover line might be what you are looking for. They are decently priced and include some really good features.

I would recommend the Fluke Microscanner. For the price, it can't be beat. And it will flash the port lights, but not on all switches.

For the most part the cheaper testers all do the same thing. All we're really looking for at that level is continuity so it comes down to who made the tester. Personally I really like Fluke. If in doubt you won't go wrong with their products.
