Hi Guys

Does anyone know to set up a dial up networking connection (in XP) for remote programming switches, that can be achieved from using 'logmein' remote control. We have an office based dial up PC that we sometimes need to use out of office hours when we are at home. We connect to the Office PC fine but as soon as the dial up is activated it disconnects the remote control. Is this a TCP problem

Sounds like it. Sounds like the DUN is taking over as the default route. I don't have access to a dial up connection to play with to test things out though. I'm a little rusty on my DUN.

Sounds like the default gateway is set on the Dialup Networking Connection. If you disable that, LogMeIn should stay connected and you should be able to connect remotely with the gear on the other side of the Dialup Networking Connection.

To change this:
Open up the Networking Connections Control Panel.
Right click on your dialup networking connection, select Properties.
Click on the Networking tab at the top.
Double-left click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Click on Advanced.
Uncheck "use default gateway on remote network".
Okay. Okay. Okay.

That should do it. I run into this issue all the time, except with the Windows VPN connection. Doing the steps above fixes the issue for VPNs and should do the same for Dialup. Let us know if that doesn't work.

Sure enough the logmein access stays up, but I cannot connect to the remote PBX( I am using NEC Aspires)

Not as easy as its looks this.

Are the IP addresses for the local network you LogMeIn the same IP block as the remote IP addresses?

I.e. LogMeIn computer IP address 192.168.1.100
Remote computer/phone switch LAN IP address 192.168.1.50

If both networks use the same IP scheme, then my trick won't work since the computer has to force the default gateway over the dialup connection in order to connect to the remote systems off the dialup connection.

Fix: change IP scheme on the LogMeIn computer's network or the remote network you connect to.

no. each dial up accesses different IP addresses whatever that particular phone system is set for.

If I uncheck "use default gateway on remote network". then I can't connect to the PBX even locally (the dial up connects but the login to the PBX fails.

Can you ping the PBX?
start -> run -> cmd
ping x.x.x.x

where x.x.x.x is the IP address of the pbx.

If the PBX isn't on the same network as the one the adapter was given, you may have to add a persistant route. I have had to do this before to allow a gotomypc connection to control a terminal services connection.
