Does Lucent suck? I was looking for a replacement for my Panasonic system at my home. I purchased a Partner system version 1.0 when they came out. Of course this system is not upgradable. Then I bought two Transtalk 9040 phones from a discounter in Los Angeles. One of the chargers was defective after a month so I tried to return it but the discounter would not accept it back after a time period. So I called Lucent, the manufacturer, and said I wanted to exchange the charger. Lucent, the manufacturer, would not take the unit back because I did not pay retail from an authorized dealer. I have never heard of such bullshit in all my life. Every other company I can think of would take back defective merchandise within a year. The products they have seem really behind the times. When are they going to come out with more opensource programmable KSUs that anyone can change? Can you say Linux? Lucent=high priced, clunky, bureaucratic, products. I am glad your stock tanked you assholes.

You bought it from a discounter? The product was probably used but resold to you as refurbished even though the discounter probably just wiped it down with some cleaner. The warranty in this case should come from your "discounter". You should have asked about the warranty from them before you bought it. FYI, most dealers will warranty products for at least a year. You took the risk of buying it from an unauthorized dealer so you're to blame on this one, guy.

phonemeister is correct.
When did you buy this equipment? And who are (They)
Number one is that the R1.0 was the first Partner ACS made and is about 9-10 years old and wasn't upgradeable until R2 came out and now they are up to R7.
Number two is that the Transtalk units were used, I can just guess that if they sold you a R1 then the Transtalks were junk to.
Number three if you are going to buy equipment from a discounter you better do your research and make sure they stand behind there stuff.
So for you to blame Avaya is very wrong, You get what you pay for and it sounds like they saw you coming.

You guys must be lap dogs for Lucent/Avaya. A Best Buy or a Circuit City are discounters in my opinion. If you buy a car at dealer invoice plus a percentage you are buying from a discounter since you are not paying suggested retail. Circuit City will sell you an extended warranty. But that is an option after the one-year factory warranty expires. I have never heard of "no warranty" from the manufacturer unless you buy from a particular person. If Avaya does not like distributors selling to discounters, they should not do business with those distributors By the way, the Transtalks were in the original plain brown manufacturer packaging. Avaya did not dispute that the products were new or used, they just do not give a damn. Oh, and they will not honor phone tech support on the product for any period of time. When have you ever heard of that? If I buy a Sony from Circuit City, I can always get warranty service direct from Sony. Other products I have purchased have said "do not return to dealer, return to manufacturer for serviceâ€. If Avaya sells to some distributor and they sell to some discounter, it is irrelevant who I bought the product from. They should be suing the discounters, if it is illegal for discounters to sell Avaya products. It is the responsibility of the manufacturer to warranty their products. Hello?, they built the damn things. Let’s not even talk about what Transtalks retail for. My God, it is only a cordless phone. I can buy a computer for the ripoff prices Avaya charges for their crap phones. Avaya deserves a prominent place in the Hall of Shame.

As DTMF said, you were sold used, old, outdated equipment that is probably way past any 1 year warranty ever offered on it. If you feel like you got screwed, take it up with the discounter you bought it from. I've seen Avaya/Lucent/AT&T stuff run perfectly for 10 years or more, so don't bash the manufacturer just because you got screwed.

Just to clarify, I purchased the R1.0 KSU new from Lucent years back. I purchased the Transtalk phones from: Page Computer 4665 Melrose Avenue Los Angeles, CA 90029-3342 https://newsite.pagecomputers.com/store/default.asp

Since Lucent hasn't been Lucent in quite some time, the equipment you purchased was old. Any NEW Avaya equipment clearly states on the box and on the equipment " Customer Warning: If this product or component has been purchased from an unauthorized source, Avaya can not guarantee its authenticity, provide certification or include it in an Avaya maintenance contract. If such a product causes an Avaya system failure, the failure will not be covered by an Avaya warranty or an existing Avaya maintenance contract" I believe you fall under this statement. Sorry you feel you need to blame others for your own stupidity, "you get what you pay for"

Ohiotelecom, look above your post. I just said I purchased the KSU new from Lucent. Maybe this was before you were born but I have the receipt with the Lucent letterhead on it. I purchased a 3 year service agreement and had it installed by Lucent Rep. Groudstart, reread your post, you actually offered no advice, just wisecracking attitude. Going back to the real world, what other companies use this "authorization disclaimer" as mentioned by Ohiotelecom? Does Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic? Are Avaya products so much in demand, they are like Louis Vitton luggage, or Rolex, that someboby would bother to counterfeit them? Avaya built the phones, packaged them, and sold them, and they should stand behind their products. Check out the Page Computer website and tell me that this is some guy in an alley selling me fake phones.

Ketama-take your attitude down a notch. You claim that those who disagree with you are Lucent lap dogs. What a way to win friends and influence people. I sell Comdial,Nortel and Panasonic. All have stipulations that warranties are through AUTHORIZED dealers and distributors only. You want to know about Sony? Hell I'll do you one better. My friend who was transferred to Germany had the handset of his SLK roadster stolen in transit..Mercedes Benz wouldn't sell him parts for his Benz bought from a Benz dealership in the US cause it wasn't covered under their warranty as a US spec car. Do yourself a favor and research where you buy your equipment. EVERY manufacturer has warranty stipulations to keep endusers from buying from flea market outlets. Protects their AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP channels.
