It is with great sadness that I must announce the death of one of my best vans. 388,000 miles and it's no longer cost effective to money into. Since Chevrolet has decided to discontinue the Astro van series and the S10 pickup series I was wondering what other companys are finding a good fit. With gas being what it is we are hesitant to go the half ton pick up. Full size vans are as fuel efficient as a dairy barn on wheels. What are you guys using and what would you stay away from from recent past experience?

Well since you don't have a subway....I had major transmission problems with a fleet of ford aero vans all years. The mini Dodges are hockypucks in the snow. Chevy has a new van/stationwagon worth looking at that replaced the Astro. My best service car ever...1986 K-car station wagon 420k and still kicking. Ford escort wagons 300k refuse to just die. All the Dodge 1999+ full sizes vapor lock in the summer on cheap gas. I still like small suv's foriegn and domestic but look for only 150 to 180 before major work.

'Astro' is a fitting moniker as our last one was driven the distance of the moon and back. Now my techs drive Chrysler Town and County.

180,000 miles on the toyota and all I do is change the oil [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]

Probably time to trade it in though. The new model has more cup holders and a AC outlet in the bed [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]
