If anyone wants this I can get it. Shipping might be a bit expensive.

That is an old 3A? test board. Used to use one of those.

See, Bill? And you keep making those comments stating that you don't know anything. :thumb:

As new as I am I'd freely admit that for everything I know, there are two or three things I don't...

So what is it?

It has "No 3 LTC" stamped on it, but it is a No 2. The No. 3 was the much larger unit used by Testdeskmen in the Repair Service Bureau. I was a Testdeskman and used the No. 3 and later the No. 3 console. The console was a very nice unit to work at - much more ergonomic.

Jordan - it was used to test subscriber lines. It used test circuitry within the CO to connect to the line, even if it was busy. Also, the main frame had test jacks spaced within the cable verticals and we could connect directly to cable pairs via the test jacks. A good testdeskman (no bragging, but I was a good one) could measure the distance to faults very accurately.

That was what the ? was for, I wasn't sure which one it was. Was a pretty complete little test board for POTs and cable pairs, once you got used to it you could pretty well tell the repairman where the trouble was. On open wire you could about tell which span was bad and just give them the pole number, of course this all took a lot of stare and compair.

Was that device also used by Bell techs to measure line impedance so they could tell if extra telephones were attached? (You know, records show that a customer is paying for 2 telephones, but line testing indicates possibly 3 or 4 are there).

dexman: Yes, you could tell how many phones were on the line, as long as it didn't go through a carrier.

We have a black vintage 1957 500 C/D tucked away in the basement. It was left behind by our home's previous owner. My dad said that he removed the coil, instead of simply disconnecting it mad , and used the phone in the master bedroom.

Last year, I removed a coil from a beat-up test phone here in the office, took it home and installed it in our phone.

The sound of the brass bells sure takes you back! laugh
