Reports are starting to surface that GM is in talks with Daimler to purchase Chrysler. eek

https://money.aol.com/news/articles...70216115609990001?ncid=NWS00010000000001

There is a poll at the link asking if GM should buy Chrysler. As I type this: 53% of voters have chosen "Yes" and 47% have chosen "No"

Don't see what GM would benefit by buying Chrysler. Anyone see any upside?

Despite the high cost of gas, the Hemi engine has its fans.

Not me. It seems that all of the American car companies are in trouble. Has a lot to do with retirement/pension obligations I suppose.

I have always bought GM cars having grown up in the Detroit area with my father working for GM his entire career.

The one positive I see would be that GM would have a competitve line of minivans with the Town & Country and Caravan models. GM has pretty much abandoned their minivan models in favor of the crossovers.

I only bring this up as I'm expecting my third child soon and am in the market for a minivan as the sedan just won't cut it any more. Seems I won't be buying a GM minivan, but I do like buying American.

Time to sell my stock in DMX.
GMC and Chevy work vans have been really good to me, the rest of the product line on both sides, I'm done with.
The paint is falling off my 2004 Dodge Ram van, (gray)it's out of warranty by mileage so they won't cover it. They have had paint problems for years and refuse to admit it.
I have had GM, Ford & Mopar products, new and used, all my life until the last few years. Now I have a Toyota (daughter), Honda (me) and a Subaru (wife), the quality, reliability, and maintenance costs cannot be matched by the usual big 3. I wish Honda would make me a work Van. If you need a family mini van, check out the Honda Odyssey (sp?) unmatched reliability and resale.

Well so far I've had good luck with my Saturn. 110K miles so far and the car runs great. When I bought it I spoke with the sale manager at the dealership who is also a friend of my dad. He said that a lot of trade-ins that he's seen had 200K+ miles on them. This was 5 years ago when I bought my car.

My wife's had a Grand Prix since '98 and we've had pretty good luck with that. The interior has degraded some, which I think has been an issue with some models. Not many mechanical issue for 130K miles.

I wish that Dodge stuck with the B series Vans. We have 2 and they have had No problems. I thing the Sprinter is too high tech for a workvan. There is too much to go wrong, and at the dealer here there is 1 guy who works on them exclusively

I workedfor Dodge about 13 years ago and there is no dooubt the quality has improved with mercedes taking over. I hate to see them step backwards. I have owned 3 chrysler dodge vehicles and had good luck. Same good luck with 2 hondas, a nissan and a toyota.

My parents had Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth minivans since they were introduced in '84 til 2000. They did us well. got 250k out of 2 of them.

I have always been a Jeep fan. The downfall of Jeep has been hard to take. In 1986 we lost the CJ:-(, but we found the Cherokee(XJ). The wrangler, YJ, wasn't nearly as "badass" looking as the CJ, but proved reliable and did well off road. Up until they dropped the Cherokee, Jeeps were quite desirable, to me. Then along came the liberty....Is that really a Jeep? No way! and the compass? The new Wrangler looks like it needs 16 AA batteries to run. Where's the remote control?

Hard to even think how GM would butcher Jeep, like they have the Hummer. Look at the Cavalier...hasn't improved since it took over for the Chevette. And the Blazer....

So, you're a member of the cult? Did they do the intiation chant when they "launched" your new Saturn? Do they send you mail every week and invite you to the worship services, I mean cook-outs?

Just kidding with you. We had a Saturn for a while and I liked it. But, it was kind of like of strange having all of that stuff sent to you like you joined a club. We eventually traded it in because we couldn't fit the 3rd car seat into it.

I really don't know why GM would want Chrysler except for the mini-vans. We currently have two Chrysler mini-vans and have had good luck with them. But, we've also had good success with the Ford E-150.

Best vehcile I ever owned was a Mazda pickup. Finally sold it just before 200K. Never had anything go bad except tires and brakes.

I apologize in advance if I offended anyone who is actually in a cult.
