I've got Dish Network at my house. I dumped the local cable company about 5 years ago and have never looked back. I've got 3 receivers - 2 standard and one DVR. The hardware seems rock solid - I've never had a problem with anything that a reset wouldn't take care of.

I hear good things about Direct TV too. There are slight differences between the channels/packages that the two operations offer. Do a comparison and maybe that will help make a decision.

I lose service for a few minutes each year during VERY heavy rainstorms. Of course I used to lose service a few times a year on cable too.

Dish Network has an excellent customer service department. 24x7 and I've never spoken to anyone who wasn't polite and knowledgeable.

My $0.02

I have DirecTv and no complaints. When we had all the hurricanes here a few years back eletricity and cable was out for 3 weeks. I was able to use a generator for electricity and because I had DirecTv I could get news and weather info.

I'll have to 3rd the DVR idea. What a great invention. The only problem with having a DVR is you will become addicted. wink There are so many times I wish I could pause/rewind what is on the radio like I can with the TV lol

Had Dish for years and can't complain but both are about the same.

My folks have Direct but I dont know why, my dad watches the local news 4 times a day and mom watchs nothing but the game shows. Neither of the Sat companies work well here at the house to many big oak trees to try to get thru, guess a few more of the hurricanes cracker refered to and I should be all set.
