I had a customer that had only 1 phone and 1 line working (the receptionist and main line), they had 20 phones and 9 lines down. When I arrived on site there was 3 Kansas State Trooper cars at the site. After I explained to them who I was they let me in the building. One of the troopers followed me while on site to see what I found, this was not a trooper station so it made it kinda strange. When I got to the phone system I noticed 4 or 5 holes in the wall that the Trooper later said where 9mm holes. I opened the Toshiba DK424 and there in the main cabinet was a 9mm bullet that when threw the wall and into the phone system hitting the 25 pair cables coming off the cards. I still can't believe to this day that only the main line and receptionist phone pairs didn't get cut by the bullet(two separate cables).

Maybe so, but it takes a .50 BMG to do in an old MITEL analog! 45ACP will slow it down tho. smile
But mwaechter, where in KS was this? I worked out of Salina from 89 to 01, and KCMO from 73-89. Is this gonna be ol' home week? smile John C. (Not Garand)

But, for strange, you can't beat 1A2 problems! A mouse can gnaw a cable in a wall, and if the phone gets moved things work, then it gets moved again and things don't. And that will NOT be the phone they complain about! Can I get an Amen?! smile John C. (Not Garand)

I don't know if this would qualify as my absolute strangest phone issue, but it's certainly an interesting one. We had installed a system in a residence in a fairly remote area. After a severe storm, we received a call indicating that the system was down. After the usual "try rebooting it" routine, we determine that we need to send a technician out there.

Upon removal of the KSU's cover, he finds a 4' long black snake coiled up inside. It had been living in there for quite some time due to the feces and urine evidence. The snake slithered away quickly up into the ceiling joists.

When we told the customer about it, they said "We were wondering where that snake went. We have seen it several times but thought it was just going back outside".

It wasn't the storm that knocked the system out. It was the numerous "deposits" made within the cabinet by the resident.
