I use primarily Firefox and I haven't noticed a big increase with pipelining. I will try going to some resource intensive sites later (that could benefit from such a thing). It's basically going to connect multiple times to a site to download the different bits and pieces of a web-page. Should help increase things like photo-galleries. Wont do much for you on things that are mostly CSS, like this bulletin board.

Also keep in mind that this could potentially bomb servers, as every web page you go to will have X number of connections made to it, even if it's just google. Set it to a more sane number like 3-5. Most http servers are set to have a max simultaneous connection limit of around 100-150. If you set your pipeline to 10, then only 10-15 people can use the website at the same time (assuming they all have their pipeline set to 10).

So, be practical in your use of it. A low number also helps you stay off the radar from a DoS perspective. smile

Leo Laporte on G4 Tech TV had a segment on his show about this very topic.

As Kumba says, once too many do it, it'll have a negative effect on everyone.

Not to mention any new server is going to have a max. simultaneous connection limit set around 10 anyways.

If it was built in the last 10 years don't expect it to work right.

You're all right anyway... no noticeable increase.
