I noticed, maybe 10 yrs ago(?), the coaches on the sidelines at NFL games with these huge Motorola headsets. I don't recall what they had been using up to that time. I don't remember the great Tom Landry wearing one so does it really matter.....?
Anyway, they just seemed SO big. This year I think they grew even bigger. So here's Motorola, maker of ultra slim cell phones, with monterous headsets. What's up with that?

And who was the knucklehead who ok'd the Eagles throwback uniforms? Eagles? Egads!

I think that was because Tom Landry was allowed to coach from the sideline without orders from some plush suite above the field. wink

It's funny that you mentioned that because I just said something to a pal of mine about football headsets this weekend. The one that I noticed had at&t's logo on it in FIVE different places! That's just advertising and probably the reason that the headsets are so big.

A bigger billboard? Surprised the coaches don't quickly take a swig out of Coke bottle when they know the camera will be on them.

Speaking from experience the reason the headsets are so big is durability. The ones I worked with setting up the sidelines for Super Bowl 39 were Motorola. The smaller they are the more fragile they are. These are not dainty little gadgets high school cheerleaders rely on these are real manly tools complete with big fat RCA plugs that you can take off and throw on the ground should you decide to run out on the field to harass a referee. Plus the size must be large enough to cover your ear completely up to block out the screaming of 100,000 fans not to mention your own band of hoodlums on the sideline. A cute Plantronics with a plastic voicetube may be perfect for Cathy the office manager but Bill Cower has got to have a bit more HP.

Speaking of football, yes it was me that connected the bank of 2500 series phones on each sideline of Super Bowl 39 used to ringdown to upstairs on demand.

Kinda figured those would be the real reason(s).
100,000? You must be thinking of a NASCAR race smile

Who played in this Superbowl 39 of which you speak?
