I'm sure it looked good on the front end coming in. Oh wait, they didn't run the numbers? What else is new! frown John C.

SSPhone, Cash for Clunkers was wrong in so many ways but the point in that email wasn't one of them. While the math is interesting, it is incomplete.
To wit:
Since the average car is kept for 100,000 miles, that's about 8.3 years. At the current oil cost listed, that's 2.9 Billion dollars. Want to bet on oil prices not going up over the next 8 years?

Oh they ran the numbers! I have my doubts that the goal of Cash for Clunkers had anything to do with fuel consumption or the price of oil.

I would tell you what I think it was really intended to accomplish but I would have to spend another 30 days in the hole so I'll hold off till I find something really worth it. eek

Dave I think your 100,000 miles and 8 years are way off the mark. According to the dealerships I have as customers, 14 of them. Average mileage is 50K to 60K and 3 to 5 years. Not to say these don't get resold as used or sent to auction.
Also the 15 and 25 mpg were very liberal as some vehicles only needed 4 mpg better.

Note this was sent to me via email, these numbers were not mine. I did not do the calculations.

On my way home from work today, we heard an advertisment for a cash for clunkers "car stereo" program. Of course this is a gimmick, but hell it could work. I would say if you are willing to do a bit of radio marketing, and play with your "profit" margins, this could work for phone systems too.

Sigh, this is sooooo simple. A phone system is only a "clunker" if it doesn't do what you expect it to do. And in my experience, most systems DO meet customer expectations...they're just not aware of it.

I submit that one could make a really good business out of "refreshing" a customer's awareness of what their switch is already capable of.

There's no need for a PBX stimulus plan, just please understand what you have and what it can ALREADY do. Next, call your local experienced Sundance tech and hit him up for advice. You'll likely find that your EXISTING gear already supports what it is that you need to make happen.

You know that logic can actually be applied across the board, from corporate technology to consumer electronics. Upgrading to the latest and greatest, whether it is phones or a flat panel TV is what feeds the fat American and our economy. We eat whether we need to eat. Don’t believe me, take a look around your own home and see what waste there is; myself not excluded.

Sucked for me, been laid off now for 6 months.
Last time there was a push for communications was during Clinton and Bush 41.

There's been some post on the edge. Let's keep political views out of this.
