I can get several boxes of paper clips for that price. I probably have a tool somewhere, we used to make them out of aerial drop wire, they were better than the actual tool.

Yeah, I used the paper clip. As I recall the ITT 3 ring binder said "To remove the Finger Wheel, insert tool XYZ4321#$%^, or a straightened paper clip, through hole 'A' and depress tab z. While holding tab depressed turn Finger Wheel anti-clockwise(!) and remove. Same tool(s) were used to remove the clear plastic Phone Number strip on a trimline or 2500 base.

I used to ( and still do ) use them to pick out crossconnect out of a large bundle of xconnect on a frame.
