Instead of telling us what you want to accomplish in the next year, tell us what thing(s) you are proud that you accomplished in 2009:
Among other things, my proud accomplishment is that I quit smoking 1/17/2009. Although it cost me some pounds, I feel like I have taken back control of my life. I am no longer a slave to the drug. I no longer smell. I am no longer looked at like a foreign creature when people see me huddled outside in the cold puffing. I do not have to spend the $8.23 per pack for a generic brand because the a-hole gov of WI keeps implementing sinners tax over sinners tax on them.
I am free. Anyone care to join me and tell this story next year? It's not easy, but it can be done.

Rhonda you should be very proud. Did you go cold turkey or get the "Smart Shot" (you can only get it in Florida right now and I am considering going since my friend did it successfully) https://www.quitdoc.com/doctor/SmartShot.html. Did you chew the gum? How pray tell did you do it? Also, does it bother you to even talk about it? Hopefully you have no desire to smoke anymore.

Way to go Rhonda. I quit about 15 years ago and only craved for about 8 years. It's the truth, not all the time but after a meal or morning coffee were the worst and out drinking with friends who still smoked. It's really worth it though I'm glad I quit when I did. As far as your topic we made it to 40 years of marriage in 2009. She must have got a saint is all I can say.

Rhonda, I'd pay double for half of the courage you have. I'm very proud of you for your accomplishment.

First of all, Congrats Bill. 40 years of marriage is amazing. That takes some good hard work as well.
As far as quitting... I had two things in my corner to help me. First, my mother was diagnosed with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer. She ended up having half of her right lung removed. I knew I need to to support her in her quitting of smoking and she might not do it if those around her were smoking.
Also, in the past I have been on gum, lozenges and patches, all of which did nothing. Nothing is going to work if you don't really want it to. It's a sad fact but it is the truth.
Being that I did want to quit, the gum, lozenges and patches still did not help but if I mentally tried hard with them, I expect they gave me a placebo effect.
The one item that did help me was the Nicotrol Inhaler. Suggested by mom's lung surgeon, you insert a pure nicotine cartiridge into a small smoker type tube and puff. No vapor or smoke. But you get a sure hit of pure nicotine. Okay, so you get rid of the tobacco and chemicals and you stop lighting cigs. You have it half beat. After a couple months on the Nicotrol Inhaler, I realized I now had to quit the inhaler. It was easier to ween off of the inhaler than cigs. It has been 9.5 months since I inserted a cartridge and inhaled. I do keep one in my purse incase I have the urge to run to a gas station and do something stupid.
Yes, I still want a cig. Yes, I think about them often. Yes, I even smoke in my dreams. But no, I'm not going to give in to the monster no matter how much it tells me it's my friend. It's like quitting a narcotic drug. It calls for you. But you don't have to answer.
Thanks for your support. I'll try to help anyone more if you decide to quit.
Anyway, back on topic...
What did you accomplish in 2009?
