Maybe the IRS should include this paragraph on their forms, written by a
disgruntled Taxpayer & Aviator yesterday.

"How can any rational individual explain that white elephant conundrum in
the middle of our tax system and, indeed, our entire legal system? Here we
have a system that is, by far, too complicated for the brightest of the
master scholars to understand. Yet, it mercilessly "holds accountable" its
victims, claiming that they're responsible for fully complying with laws not
even the experts understand. The law "requires" a signature on the bottom of
a tax filing; yet no one can say truthfully that they understand what they
are signing; if that's not "duress" than what is. If this is not the measure
of a totalitarian regime"

Tax forms are like technical manuals...written in so much gobbledy-gook that it is indeed impossible to understand.

Everything should be drawn up using the "KISS" method (Keep It Simple Stupid).

Maybe a clause right under the signature like "Signed without complete comprehension of the content and questions" should be added. laugh

Just cross your fingers and pray you didn't make a mistake.

Just follow the instruction book to the letter and you'll be safe. That's what it's there for. First they write 100 gazillion laws, rules, and addendums. Then they tell you that if you violate one, 'Yo' in a heap of trouble'. Then they write an instruction book that only tells you what they must to easily get the max out of your hip pocket. They don't tell you about all the other laws, rules and addendums because that makes jobs for CPA's and also increases the 'take', as noted in the previous sentence, because of all the people that have been raked over the coals. Remember, FEAR is their partner! Even if you win in court, getting your $ back and compensation for time and money spent by you and on a lawyer, will take years! First they'll try the 'We'll credit it on your underpayments'. Of course Serious underpayments will get you right back in court for violating more of their laws, rules, and addendums! Oh yeah, forget about penalizing them, ain't gonna happen. Remember, they are the 1 division of the federal government that has permission, in writing, to violate the Constitution! Never mind that nowhere in the Constitution is it stated that that permission can be given or received by or from anybody, or anything! frown (pant, pant, pant) Soapbox anyone, I have to go find my inhaler!

The IRS wants just one Thing from the Public."Obedience" "You Will Comply" We can't Excape it, not even in Death.(Death Tax) They have Stopped Careing about The Public Years ago, not sure they Ever Did. So we have to Play Their Game By Their Rules and Try to Minimize the Cost. :bang:

I don't mind paying taxes as I like some of the things it gets me (roads, police, schools, etc). What I have a problem with is how they spend it and how convoluted and obfuscated the laws are around it.

Two ideas, Fair Tax, and Drop all current legal proceedings/collection activities. Fair tax first or only, if I have to choose. smile John C.

Here in NYC we pay Federal Tax, NY State Tax and NYC Tax (as well as the 8.25% Sales Tax and property Tax and, and, and....)

I don't Like the Federal Tax, but I can see where it's going. I may not like HOW those thieves in Washington DC are spending my money, but I can see them spend it.

I don't like paying NYC Tax, but I can see the Cops and Firemen and Libraries and Sanitation and roads and it's all stuff that I use.

I pay about twice what I pay in NYC tax to the State and for the life of me I don't see what I get for it. No State Troopers in the City, the highways are all local as are the hospitals and just about all the government services. :bang:

There was a campaign years ago for NYC to secede from NY State and become the 51st State.

It sounded good to me then and it still sounds good.

The city I live in has very low property tax for residents but some of the best services I've ever seen. The bulk of the tax base comes from all the businesses in the city.

The sickest tax or the most socialist tax is the Property tax. If my wife & I both make money and have kids in the school system, then why should the 90 yr old WWII vet who lives on his own have to pay the same property tax ???

I thought I read that there was a US senator that was bringing in a bill this year for a flat federal income tax.

I hope that goes through because with some luck it may spread up here to Canada.
