Proof that railroad engineers should be trained in the proper operation of their equipment during tornadoes. It was reckless and stupid to continue through the storm.
Their procedure should be:
Stop the train.
Dump the air from the train.
Uncouple the locomotives, and move them out of the immediate area of the tank cars.
I would love to be able top speak to their safety foreman to see what he thinks.
The initial derailments might have still occurred, but the subsequent sh*t storm of derailed hazmat might have been avoided. The rail cars that were blown sideways could have been righted easily, without collateral damage to the roadbed and trees, etc.
