The doorbell at our house has always been painfully slow. I never thought it was a big deal, but the wife insists that she needs to know RIGHT AWAY when the milkman arrives on weekday afternoons, so in the interests of domestic tranquility I decided to try to fix it. Someone on a computer forum suggested upgrading the cable, so I ran CAT 7 all the way from the doorbell transformer in the basement to the doorbell unit itself, and also to the button at the front door. Terminating the CAT 7 at the doorbell end was no problem - it is a brand new 100% digital Rumbaflex 6000 model with laser etched high-epitaxial screw terminals rated for cables up to CAT 10, as was the transformer. But the doorbell button itself turned out to be a huge problem - the tiny screws on the back were only rated for CAT 5. Our local hardware store here can special order CAT 6 screws to fit the button (28 dollars each!), but apparently CAT 7 screws are simply unavailable at any price.
I went back to the same computer forum that suggested the cable upgrade, and even though they were pretty sarcastic over my lack of tech-savvy, someone on there provided a link to a vendor that sells CAT 7 rated doorbell buttons. But now there is a new problem: The CAT 7 button has an RJ9 connector on the back! The computer store says RJ9 plugs are on permanent back-order, so no help there. Does anyone here know where I can buy CAT 7 rated RJ9 plugs? Any help at all would be appreciated, I'm at my wit's end and the missus is on me EVERY DAY about getting this done.
By the way, the Rumbaflex 6000 is the most advanced doorbell on the market - it sends a twit to tweeter every time someone comes to your door! Talk about amazing new technology - I don't know how I ever got by without it.

FO wasn't available? Using Unicam's to terminate would make the job easier and also much faster. I read the White Page that it will ring your bell when a person leaves their driveway when they intend to visit you. White Paper

For what it's worth, those are not really RJ9 connectors, as anyone who has been around here for a while can tell you, there are some of the regulars who get in a real snit
P.S. as the Shadow said, I would have gone for Fiber as well - get the signal thru at the speed of Light!

I heard that with the new firmware upgrade, the doorbell will only ring after You leave, I guess it was something to do with the wife making sure you are not alerted of the milkman;s arrival so she can get first dibs on the milk ????
You will also want to make sure the RJ9 plug is rated for solid copper instead of stranded. Of course I know that you, being the professional, would never terminate a plug onto the end of a cable, but rather use a jack to perform the proper termination. You would then have to connect them with a patch cable, since it is probably 3" from Jack to Jack, I would confirm on that High-minded forum that a 7' patch cord would be approriate.

There's an awful delay in electrons on 7" cables. I think you'd have to order the special 4" cords. A bit pricey at $30, but well worth the increase in performance.
I think next year I have to work on my post for my favorite Avaya business system :-)

You need Cat8e electrons. They go twice as fast, but they have a top quark spin.
