(her) "Electrical Inspectors office"

(me) "Hi, is this the office or the answering service?"

"Yes, this is the service"

"When can I call back and reach an inspector?"

"Monday morning."

"Monday is a holiday. Will there be someone in the office then?"

"No. Monday is a holiday. They will be in on Tuesday."

"So, if were to fax something over right now, would there be anyone in the office who could get back to me today?"

"No, this is the answering service."

Just shows to go you, even the peons who work for Sparky have the same mentality.

We need a smiley that has a guy putting a pistol into his mouth, and then blowing little red bits all over the screen.

Ok, so she mis-spoke when she said Monday instead of Tuesday, forgetting that Monday was a holiday.

You already know that you've reached the service, meaning that they are not in, and you've already confirmed that they are out until Tuesday, what's the point of asking about faxing?

I didn't ask about sending a fax to her. I asked about sending a fax to the
inspectors' office, in the event that there might be someone lurking there,
avoiding taking phone calls, on break, getting amorous, shooting up, or
otherwise engaged, or in the event that the inspectors might be in the
field, and be returning at a later time, and be able to respond to my
request for a corrected letter of inspection that had my name misspelled, my
address wrong, and the wrong meter number

once the calls are forwarded the answering service would be unlikely to have any idea if "there might be someone lurking there,
avoiding taking phone calls, on break, getting amorous, shooting up, or
otherwise engaged,"

why not just send the fax and be done with it (or go look in the window and see for yourself )

Too far: 75 miles round trip, and a boat ride, away. I just thought that I could cross off a phone errand before the weekend.

I know that "Arthur" is an exotic name, but if I write an email and sign it correctly, how hard is it to copy the spelling, one letter at a time?

How hard is it to type "47-A" for an address, instead of "47"?

How hard is it to get the meter number correct? It's what they do for a living, isn't it? It's not rocket surgery, for cryin' out loud.
