How many felt the earth shake on the east coast earlier this afternoon?
Our building here in Boston shook, but I was out in the switch room (raised floor) and didn't feel anything. My boss said his chair started to roll and the office windows creaked. Upper floors of our building were evacuated, but people soon went back in.

Hey Rhonda, I don't think Larry visits here anymore, at least not lately. I checked with him via the other board and looks like he's fine.
Sounds like there was very little damage, which is a good thing as the buildings on the East Coast don't meet the earthquake requirements of the West Coast.

It was very minimal, 5.8 was confirmed by the USGS with two smaller aftershocks about thirty minutes and an hour later. It was actually quite interesting. It took a second to figure out what was going on, but once we did, we managed to get out of the building very quickly.
In usual Washington DC fashion, nearly every building in the city was evacuated and a mass exodus began. Government workers will use any excuse to get out of the office. Aside from the massive traffic, it was really quite uneventful.
It was nice to have something for the news to report besides politics though. How refreshing.
Since the epicenter was only a few miles from our local nuclear power plant, they chose to shut down both reactors on the side of caution. There was no damage there, but I'm sure that they'll want to do plenty of inspections after what happened in Japan.
What was most funny about this was that the press began discussing the potential for a Tsunami. Are they that desperate for news discussion?
Anyway, thanks to everyone for your concern. Rhonda, as always, thank you so much for calling to check on me.
