Twice a year a bunch of us old NYTel/AT&T guys get together in NYC for dinner. So far, no one has failed to show up due to his own death.

One old guy has moved to Florida, though, and only sends postcards to remind us that he's still alive.

He joined the New York company in 1950, and almost immediately got drafted into the Korean War, assigned to the Signal Corps. At the end of the war, he returned to his job, and worked for a total of thirty years, retiring in 1980.

Last year, he reached a milestone: He has been retired for more years than he worked, and still getting a nice pension. He has out-lived the company's actuarial tables for retired employees.

The heart-warming message on his annual postcard said:

"Worked for 30 years. Retired for 30 years. Now, I'm really F---ing those bastards."

Keep it up Arthur, you've only got 15 years to go.

My wife, who is in HR and deals with pensions laughed uproariously from that message.

Please don't confuse your "Internet Search" with my licenses, certifications and over 30 years experience.

my grandfather worked in a steel mill here in montreal, he worked for about 35 years when he was forced to retire at 60. he lived to 92. the mill was long gone except for a skeleton staff office in downtown montreal. He used to get a yearly birthday card from a girl in HR. I used to joke him being alive assured her a job!
