I have a customer who wants to be able to monitor multiple stations simultaniously from a single extensions though the speakerphone.
(it's going into a high end home. The mom wants to be able to monitor the kids rooms through the speakerphone from the room she's in)

Also, at the same time be able to take a call from that extension at the same time.
Is this possible?

I know I can do this through a seperate monitoring/speaker system but she wants it to go through the phone.

What kind of phone system? Many systems have a service observing feature.

Vodavi makes a nice residential system called the "STS Home" and it has the room monitor feature.
The NEC Portrait series and the Panasonic KX-TA624 also provide room monitoring.
However, I quite sure none of these allow simultaneous use of the phone while in the room monitor mode.

I know about the Panny 624 and the STS.
But they can only do 2 rooms at the same time and you cannot use the phone at the same time.

She wants to monitor 3 rooms at the same time PLUS be able to make or take call calls.

I don't think this is possible.

I've never heard of that being done. I do know that with the dx80 you can conference up to 4 extension members.

By monitor what do you mean? To be able to listen to there telephone conversations? Or monitor the room even when they are not on the set? If you want to monitor the conversations you could get a system and set the stations for not private but you would have to switch from line to line to hear the parties, you won't be able to hear them all at the same time, I don't think they make anything that you can monitor them all at the same time, but if they are all on the same line you could monitor them all with the set being assigned non privacy.

Because of the nature of telephone design, I cannot see any way that this would be possible. You are talking about using the talk path to carry two diffrent sets of data at the same time.
I believe that, any system that might be able to do the monitoring would lose the ability to monitor once a call is made or recieved. The monitor function would have to be disengaged and then re-engaged after the call is completed.
It is certainly possible to get notification of an incoming call while on monitor, but one you engage the call, the monitor would have to drop.
I think that, whether she likes it or not, your customer is going to have to get seperate monitor and phone systems.

maybe if the parents spent more time raising kids instead of raising money this distrust wouldn't be an issue. But I doubt there is a way of doing all she wants with any one system.
