Installed the C.O. Expansion card and had problems getting the RJ-11 modular plugs to seat properly.

History - I installed the card a year ago and only connected the first two ports. Added extensions and connected the last two ports, but the modular plugs didn't seem to seat correctly, even the plugs I installed last year seemed to became intermittent. Looked real close at the plugs and appears that I may have inadvertently used the silver satin type with two in-line tines or might have been one of those "universal" plugs for both stranded and solid UTP cable.

Troubleshooting - Replaced the plugs with off-set tines style plugs for solid-wire UTP cable and still was intermittent - I had to pull the plug out a bit and hold it there to make connection. Tried several other modular plugs with same results. Even tried two other connector crimp tools and went through at least 30 plugs in all. This happened on all four of the card ports. Ended up using a two cut-in-half silver satin cables with pre-conectorized ends.

Conclusion - Since all the cables/plugs I made up worked 100% at the demarc NID, it appears the problem was in the modular jacks on the card itself. Has anyone else seen this?

I've never had a problem with them. Using the right ends for the wire and a good crimp tool, all has been well.

I have had other mod systems that the pins would flatten out and cause a similar problem. The solution there was to take your spudge probe tool and get under the pins and pry them back up into position to make good contact.
