I am ordering my first DX80 cordless. Do I need a specific rev on the switch software for it to work?

Good question. I've not noted anything that indicates a rev level in any of the info they have sent me, and I haven't touched one yet.
I guess I should get one to feel it out.

Man, can I relate. I hit 40 and my mind left me. I walk into my partners office about every other day and just turn around and go back where I came from to try to find the thought that I left there.

...WITH voice announce too!

I believe the system "sees" it as a regular digital set. If you go to Maintenance and look at the port status, I think it shows there being a Digital Executive Telephone there.

This is true. It is the easiest to install. First thing though..turn off voice announce on the set if you are installing it on an existing port. Make sure the existing DET is set to ring not voice announce.
