We have a customer who someone referred to Mike Sandman for Caller ID on a DSU II with Impact phones. Once he got it he didn't understand what the instructions were requesting so he called us to hook it up. I hooked it up exactly as specified in the instructions supplied by Mike Sandman and cross referenced with the DSU II manual to check for accuracy. I did all the required programming as listed in the DSU II manual as well. Still have no CID. I checked the output of the CID unit (it is a "Whozz Calling Lite") with ProCom for Windows and it sends the info beautifully. I plugged into COM port 2 on the DSU using pin 5 for ground coming from pin 5 on the DB9 and pin 3 for the receive coming from pin 2 on the DB9. I don't know if I have overlooked something, does anybody have any suggestions? Thank you to all.

Every now and then we are asked how to connect a serial device. In your case, 2 connections are required. Once you conquer signal ground the rest will come. As for the who's calling unit, I've installed several. There are specific dip switch settings for comdial systems.

I think finding the proper pin-outs between the DB9 and the RJ-14 may be my woes at the moment. I've got the dip switch settings on it, there are two switches that both have to be ON for the comdial settings. I am going to see if I can google up a schematic for the pin-outs on the serial connection.
