Hello,
Does anyone know how to program the A1-A12 buttons for intercom and co lines?
First time with a Comdial and seem to be missing the info in the manual.

If you mean DSS button, try Intercom**3 press the button to program and dial the extension number. Programming lines to the A field is a bit more complicated and you should only program lines to buttons with lights. If you acquire the necessary "pages" for programming, I offer this tip. After you enter the correct program code and extension, you should blank all buttons. There are do's and don'ts with executech. This is installer level programming and we are prohibited from providing that level of assistance in the open forum.

I downloaded the manual and it's beginning to look a little greek to me after a couple hours of thumbing through it.
I did the **3 tip and all that happens is A1 is lit up automatically when I hit intercom. Therefore not letting me program the other A buttons. I'm using a 6714x phone.

I'd check to make sure the XE manual revision you downloaded is the same as the revision on the KSU. In the Rev B or later manual, the programming instructions are pretty specific.

If the box is new, you can default the system. If not, you have codes you can dial from system programming to map buttions to the A field if that's what you're trying to do.

If your DSS button lights up when you hit intercom, you probably programmed the DSS button for your 'own' extension...ie the button calls your own extension. So it will light when your station is not idle. Lifting the handset and then pressing your 'own' DSS button results in an all-call page. Pressing it when idle just seizes the intercom. Of course, DSS buttons are most useful when programmed to intercom other stations...

The Class Of Service section of the manual looks a little greek because it is intended to supplement a certified Comdial tech in servicing the system. The system is old, but there are numerous techs like jwooten, Carl, myself, and pretty much all the other mods on this board who can help you program for a modest fee. Use the PM feature to contact a tech for assistance.

My favorite Comdial memory was the "buy one, get one free" KSU deal. Never mind that the "Made in America" phones were pretty expensive. I think we sold them for $200 plus in 1980's money!
It kinda gave us the $1000 plus $200 bucks a phone quick quote bidding system.

I still have 8-10 KSU's on the warehouse shelf and I try to pitch the yellowed ash phones as I can.

Of those old systems, Impacts were the best.
