monitor the line on a call in, sounds like the VM is hearing a * (star) and going to the directory prompt. Also watch the screen while a call comes in and see if it answers with 800 then goes right to the directory.

Do you use the directory function? I don't know why it's doing what you say, but if you don't use it, you could rename the file extension to .old then there would be silence when it tried to play the file. The manual shows all the file names and descriptions. I had some old hard drive systems that would say "that is not a valid extension" then go to 800 so I did just what I listed above and all has been fine. Only good if you don't use the directory though. I have to think it's hearing some garbage that it thinks is a que to play that prompt.

Is there any type of filters to put inline, to get ride of the noise? The system was working fine for a very long time.

No the only thing that changed was we went to auto attendant, previously we had a receptionist answering the incoming calls.

Forget the filters and such. There has to be a stray digit coming in. Run a trace and see what the voicemail is "hearing". It's either going to be a misplaced or incorrect entry in the translation file, or a digit coming from the switch that's causing this to happen. Either way, the trace will allow you to see where it's coming from. If it's coming from the switch, and if it's there for a reason, you should be able to translate to accomodate it.

What kind of phone system is the voicemail attached to?
