Hi I am trying to setup a Unified Messgaing server connected to the iDCS500. This would be for Fax and Voicemail (obviously external).

The way in which we connect to other PBX's is using ISDN BRI S0's and Eicon ISDN cards. An extension range is normally assigned to the ISDN lines which are placed into a line bundle or group to allow hunting over all the lines. As such, the end result is each user has a physical extension (handset device)and a messaging box extension number ie 2 numbers. A call forward no answer is applied to the phone forwarding to the second messaging number. This is routed down the S0 to the UMS server giving DID digits (messaging number) and CLI digits (original caller). The UMS server will then answer with the user details.

The technicians that I am working with say that this is not really possible on the Samsung.

Please can somebody explain the way in which it should be setup. Thanks

Rodger - What UMS are you using? I am also going to assume that you are connecting the UMS to the Station-side of the BRI circuits not the Telco side - right?

By the way where in SA are you located - I love that country.

I am Based in Johannesburg. It is a great country!!
The Unified Messaging is called Cycos Message Routing System (Its a German Product which has a large portion of the European market - www.cycos.com. It integrates to MSexchange, Lotus, SAP etc ). And yes we are connecting to the Station-side.
Thanks for your quick response.

Rodger -

Since I am not an expert on 3rd party voicemails maybe someone else can lend a hand but let me explain how 3rd party voicemails typically interface to the Samsung systems in the US. In most case we interface through an analogue station ports. The DID number would ring into the phone systems and the phone system would translate that DID number to a station or mailbox. If a call rings a station with a forward RNA/Busy to voicemail programmed the phone system will reroute that call to the voicemail group. If your voicemail supports In-Band Signalling the phone system can be set up in MMC 207 and 726 to send Call Type and Progress Tones. This information could include CLI and status of the extension that was rang.

I don't know if that helps you but I know of many 3rd party UM platforms working on Samsung phone sytems here in the states.
