Is there a special serial cable pin out for programing? I set up hyper term to 8,none,1 and 38,400bps is there something missing?

If I'm not mistaken its a straight cable.
Pin1-1 and so on.

I tried the CTL L and that didn't do anything.

For the olds versions of SVMI4 ,sometimes you need to reboot the voice mail to get in.

all the about suggestions are good, but I didn't see it stated that you pressed the ESC. key to get in. PVJ is right about the straight through cable.

ESC key is the access to the system that prompts you for a password. CTRL L cleans up the display which occurs often with the SVMI-4.
