Hi Everyone,

I have been considering purchasing the Greenlee Cable Caster for a while, but I don't have any experience using it. If you haven't seen it before, check out this link:

I do alot of residential wiring (data and voice), and run into alot of poorly installed dropped ceilings. (Nothing slows a guy down like a ceiling that was installed without a square!)

I would like to hear from anyone that has used this device. Actually, I would also like to see what other tools you guys are using to speed up your installs!

Yes, we use them. They work best in very large open spaces. And you can shoot them about 50 feet.

So to answer your question...........there ok in the right place.

Never used one. My feelings are confirmed by Mike, they work best in large open spaces. I can think of only one job that we have ever done where this was the case. (Think something like Home Depot with an 8 foot dropped ceiling.)

For what you are doing the fiberglass rods are your best choice. That's what we use and they work well.

I am with Hal on this one, the fiber glass rods work great in that situation. You may want to look at a "gopher pole" as well.

I bought one , really a waste in my opion , if you have a open ceiling you can throw the wire just as far , I have both a tennis and golf balls with eye bolts that i use for weight on the end of the wire.

pricey but worth every cent

With the rules being so strict for tying up wiring in ceiling spaces, I don't see how this thing would really be of any help. I agree that rods are probably better.

I dont suggest it. They are a waste of money and time.

fiberglass rods or creepzits are what you want.
Or you can by a bolt shooter attach a reel and get much better distance.

I like the golf ball idea aswell although I have never used one.

I like to fiberglass rods as Ed said you need to tie cable up so 50' runs don't save you much. Years ago I had a largs warehouse to wire I used my bow with a fish reel I could get over 150' per shot

I heard a funny story that someone from Sasktel was using a cross bow above the ceiling. Took a shoot hit something in the ceiling arrow came down and stuck in some one's desk. Don't know if it is true but makes a funny story.

Agree with Ed, I use chimney sweep fiber glass poles. The only problem as they get old you get slivers in your hands off the poles. If you have to tie the wires up, you have open every other tile anyway.
